Dell Buys Boomi

Enables Data Sharing Between Local and Cloud Apps

After Michael Dell titillated Wall Street from Hong Kong Monday by saying that Dell was about to make cloud acquisition - and the punters drove up Rackspace 7% by mistake - Dell Tuesday bought Boomi, a little application integration ISV in Pennsylvania with some platform-as-a-service widgetry called AtomSphere.

AtomSphere is supposed to make it possible to share data between cloud-based and on-premise applications without appliances, software or coding.

It promises optimized business processes, accurate data and reliable workflow. It's also supposed to lower integration costs and realize productivity and efficiency gains over traditional models

Dell says Boomi manages millions of transactions a month and has completed tens of thousands of cloud integrations for hundreds of customers globally across a wide spectrum of industries.

Customers include the chi-chi as well as NetSuite, Intuit, Marketo, Taleo and Zuora.

No price was disclosed. Boomi appears to have had only one $4 million round a couple of years ago from FirstMark Capital and some private investors. Dell didn't say when it thinks the acquisition will close.
